The painting took a lot of preparing, research, and sketching. The reference came from pictures of wrestling women. On its own each picture was already estranging because of the sometimes knot-like poses. But after I rearranged them, melting them together, it became one organism. A bizarre blob with lots of limps and other body parts, but without a head. It appears to be in constant flux. The whole process of merging together seems to be driven by the otherworldly energy that flows around and through the collective body. To enhance the feeling of surreal energy, I painted the mutated flowers and mushrooms in intense fluorescent colors.
